Former PDP national chairman returns, announces interest in APC's top job



Former Borno state governor and one-time national chairman of the PDP, Ali Modu Sheriff, has set his sights on APC's top job.


The 65-year-old politician was PDP's national chairman in 2016 before being removed at the party's national convention the same year - Sheriff told reporters on Saturday that if the zoning of the APC national chairmanship favours his political region, he would contest for the position Ali Modu Sheriff, a former chairman of the National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has revealed his desire to head the All Progressives Congress (APC) too. 


VAM News learnt that Sheriff made the confirmation in Damaturu, the Yobe state capital on Saturday, February 27.


 

The former governor of Borno state from 2003 to 2011, said he is interested in leading the APC at the national level and would definitely contest for the position if it is zoned to his north-east region. 


Sheriff says he is ready and just waiting to see if the APC's zoning arrangement would allow him to contest for the position. 


 He explained: 

“But the real thing is that whether I will run for the office or not will be determined by what the caretaker committee takes as a decision on where the leadership of the party will go. Whether it will go to another place or it will remain in our zone." 


He : “If it goes to another zone, I will not contest. But if it stays in our zone, I will contest."


Sheriff was in charge of the PDP as chairman in 2016 before he was later removed at the party's national convention the same year.
