Osun Warns Of Possible 2nd Lockdown As State Records 55 New COVID-19 Case

Osun state has recorded 55 new cases of the COVID-19 infection in the last 24 hours, bringing the state’s total to 1,318.

In a daily report by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Wednesday night, Osun was one of 21 state’s and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) that accounted for 1,386 new cases in the country.

The records for others included:

Lagos – 476, Rivers – 163, FCT – 116, Kaduna – 114, Oyo – 68, Plateau – 62, Ogun – 56, Imo – 55, Edo – 51, Anambra – 50, Kwara – 44, Kano – 17, Ebonyi – 14, Cross River – 10, Delta – 10, Jigawa – 8, Bayelsa – 6, Ekiti – 6, Borno – 2, Taraba – 2, and Zamfara – 1.

Meanwhile, the government of the State of Osun has released a new set of guidines as part of measures to manage the second wave of the pandemic.

In a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Wole Oyebamiji, the government warned citizens about a possible lockdown if the multi-sectoral guidelines are not strictly adhered to, or if the number of confirmed cases keeps climbing.

Part of the conditions of the new guidelines included a ban on all social gatherings except those approved by the government after an application must have been submitted by the organisers; operation of religious organisations limited to only 30 percent of actual capacity with strict adherence to safety protocols; parents and guardians taking personal responsibility for their children’s safety and school owners or head teachers will be held responsible for any infractions in schools.

Other conditions included the operation of motorcycle and mini-buses in 50 percent loading capacity; operation of eateries, bars, joints and restaurants in 50 percent of actual capacity with strict adherence to safety protocols; enforcement of the “no mask, no entry” policy in all government offices, businesses and public facilities; civil servants below Level 12 are to work from home with effect from Monday, 25th January, with the exception of teachers, health workers and other workers on essential services.

The government also announced that it has increased its testing capacity and opened up test centres across the state. It enjoined its citizens to ascertain their status by taking a Covid-19 test, which the government declared free of any cost to citizens.
