Governor Ugwuanyi clears 2017 salary arrears of four LGAs workers

Enugu State Government has cleared 2017 arrears of salary owed local government workers in four local government areas of the state.

The permanent secretary, Ministry of Financé, Mr Ezema Benedict disclosed this in an interview with journalists in Nsukka Local Government council during the payment of the arrears of the council workers on Tuesday received by VAM Nigeria.

He said four local government councils out of the 17 local government councils were unable to cope with 2017 salary in their areas and Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi in his magnanimity waded in to save the devastating situation of the four local government areas of Nsukka, Isi-Uzo, Enugu South and Uzo-Uwani LGAs.

Ezema urged workers across the 17 local government areas of the state to be dedicated to duty to reciprocate the gesture of the workers-friendly governor of the state. He said that Nsukka was owed November, December and June 2017 salaries while Uzo-Uwani and Enugu South were owed one-month arrears of 2017 salary respectively.

The permanent secretary said that workers in Enugu State receive an alert of salary at the 25th of every month, adding that the governor with the robust infrastructure and human capital development still clears arrears of salaries in local government councils to strike balance and equity in the local government system. “ It was the good and exemplary governance in the state that made him score 95 per cent votes in the just concluded governorship and state assembly elections in the country.” Eczema recalled that in 2017, the governor paid several months arrears of salaries inherited from past administrations to local government workers across the 17 local government areas.

“In 2017, the governor paid nine months arrears of salary to Nsukka local government council and with the current payment of four months, we have cleared all arrears of Nsukka LGA,” he noted. Reacting to the payment, the chairman National Union of Local Government Workers, NULGE, George Ngwu expressed excitement in the windfall of the state government decided to clear the backlog arrears of 2017/salaries.

Ngwu changed workers of the council to show commitment and dedication to duty. to reciprocate the state government gesture, explaining that Ugwuanyi has wiped away the tears of local government workers across the 17 local government areas of the state and replaced it with Joy to the glory of God He said that the administration of Ugwuanyi from 2015 to 2023 will definitely end in praise as workers smile home happily every month together with the December 13th month payment in the state.
