Tears as commissioner for health dies 3 months after he was sworn into office

Dr. Emmanuel Ikwulono, Benue state commissioner for health is dead following complications from surgery.

In a report by Nigerian Tribune, news of his death was confirmed by a source in the government house.

Though his family is yet to make an official statement, the source went on to note that the commissioner was hospitalised at an undisclosed hospital.

“He attended the last State Executive Council meeting last week and subsequently went for surgical operation. His death came as a rude shock this evening,” the source said.

Dr. Ikwulono took over from Dr. Sunday Ongbabo who had resigned his appointment from the State Executive Council.

He was then was sworn in on Wednesday, August 5, as commissioner for health and human services.

Meanwhile, VAM News reported that Dr. Wahab Adegbenro, Ondo state commissioner of health died of COVID-19 on Thursday, June 2.

Adegbenro had been battling the infection but efforts of the state health operatives proved futile as the commissioner later gave up the ghost.

A source from the government quarter claimed that the late commissioner died at the Federal Medical Center, Owo, after spending about ten days at the hospital.

The commissioner's death came after Governor Rotimi Akeredolu announced that he had tested positive for the virus.

Similarly, the commissioner for health in Enugu, Professor Anthony Ugochukwu, has been confirmed dead.
