By One Class

International Students’ Day is an international observance of student community held every year on 17th November.

The leading presidential aspirant of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Sunday Asefon has felicitated with the whole students in the world and also expressed his desire to preach the Students freedom from oppression.

While addressing reporters, in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State Capital  Asefon, said despite the significance of the day in the life of students, it is paramount to task for the freedom from the oppression of the students movement, just like Pharaoh somehow had strange suspicion that he’d better do something to hold these people back.

The oppressor has that same inclination to want to hold Students back from their studies.

He revealed that many students in districts across the world, especially, in Nigeria are faced with issues of poverty, racism, and oppression in their communities and campuses.

Comrade Sunday Asefon reiterated that, oppression in our schools is a form of racism and privilege that must be overcome. If we continue to remain silent about these issues, we are communicating to our students and communities living in poverty that they are not worth serving

Government, Educators and administrators are uncertain about how to meet the needs of students, especially students of color living in poverty.

He appealed to the  Government at all level, Educators and educational leaders to embrace this reality and make themselves accountable for the learning and academic success of all learners.

This begins by acknowledging the privilege, power, and racism that exist in our educational system.

At this juncture, Education sector in our country needs adequate funding and prioritizing education as the key to sustainable growth and development, Asefon Sunday said,  we cannot continue to operate in the old ways and expecting a new digital result

He hereby call on Federal Government as a matter of necessity to resolve the strike crisis and get us back to school.
