Eid-el-Fitr: NANS President Asefon Congratulates Muslim Students, Solicits Action And Prayers Against Insecurity
The Revolutionary President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comr. Sunday Asefon wishes all Muslims, especially Nigerian youths and students in Nigeria and diaspora, Eid Mubarak as they celebrate Eid Fitr.
As you celebrate the happiness which human feels after successfully completing an essential task, according to Al-Islam, may allah grant you the grace to imbibe the lessons of your Ramadan experience and grow in your faith and service to mankind.
Asefon in his message, expressed with joy the peaceful relationship between Muslim students in Nigeria and adherents of other religions and call on all of us to continue to promote peaceful coexistence regardless of faith or tribe. Inter religious harmony will contribute to better understanding and support NANS’ effort at ensuring a more peaceful country for all citizens, residents and visitors.
NANS President has called for gallant action from the Nigerian government at all levels and fervent prayers from Muslim Ummah to enable the country win the war against insecurity.
In a statement released in Abuja and signed by the office of the President, the President said Eid-el-Fitr which usually comes after one month of Ramadan fasting by the Muslim Ummah, stands out as an essential event in the Muslim calendar.
He described Ramadan fasting as a period of self-discipline, sacrifice and empathy for Muslims and congratulated them for their successful participation.
He urged all Muslims who have successfully gone through the long period of self-denial not to allow the lessons that come always with their participation in it to elude them.
Asefon expressed sympathy with the Muslim Ummah for this year’s Ramadan fast because of the difficulty they gone through because of the increase in price of goods and commodity and rising of insecurity in the country especially to the students environment.
“I commend your courage and steadfastness in the face of these difficulties and I urge all muslims to continue to pray for Allah’s intervention to heal the giant of Africa from this retrogressive development"
“I want to assure Nigerian students that my administration is ready and adequately equipped to advocate for the protection of the students against oppression and will do whatever is required to take them as my first priority.
“However, we must not forget to play our own part as a student by observing the security tips such as schedule your trip between 9 am to 7pm pm, remove titles from your phone contacts; Senator, President, Chairman, Alhaji, Chief, and other ranks in general, don't use tinted sheets on your car; always have a spare tyre, plug and fuel pump in your car and keep your eyes on the road, always walk and move with your eyes open and maintain other measures."
The President used the medium to condemn the frequent killing, kidnapping and security clashes in some parts of the country, particularly in Northern states, which resulted to the death of many innocent people and the destruction of houses and properties.
He encouraged students to be vigilant and frequently observe their environment and alert the security agencies to deal decisively with any attempt on killing and kidnapping situation anywhere it occurs.
