Court bars Electricity plc in Ondo from billing Unmetered Buildings

Amidst sustained outrages on billing unmetered buildings in Ondo state has suffered a set back, VAM News has learnt.

An Ondo state High Court sitting in Akure and presided over by Justice Olabode Adegbehingbe has declared electricity consumption billings in an unmetered building illegal, unjustifiable, arbitrary and wrongful.

According to the reports, Justice Adegbehingbe made this declaration in a judgement delivered on April 23, 2020 in a case filled by Mike Kpemi against Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC).

The Court also ordered BEDC to immediately install a metering device at the claimant’s residence, at Bethel Estate , Oba- Ile, Akure at the paying rates approved by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission for the type of meter installed, where applicable.

The judge further restrained BEDC from billing the claimant’s residence and from disconnecting the claimant’s house from the defendant’s network unless and until a meter is first installed at the house.

It is believed that all electricity consumers in ondo state and beyond can cite this judgement against defaulting electricity distribution companies (Discos).
