Maiden edition of Literary, Essay and Debate (LEAD) Competition hosted by Degrees and Careers (How To Apply)

Degrees and Careers, one of the eight organizations under the MOD Group, has just launched the first edition of its Literary, Essay and Debate Competition. 



D&C is a unique educational counselling community where students can learn everything they need to know about high-in-demand careers, speak with dedicated counsellors for guidance, find out where to study their preferred course, see offers on genuine scholarships around the world, and discover lasting solutions to their academic challenges.



Through the LEAD Competition, our community aims to promote proper usage of the English Language among Nigerian Secondary School students. And to achieve this, we have structured the competition to evaluate the writing skills, Speaking Skills, Reading Skills, Research Skills, critical thinking skills, and persuasion skills of the contestants.



Here are the Details of the Contest:

This LEAD competition and has been designed for senior secondary school and A-level students within ages 15 – 18.

Qualified students are to participate individually.

The first leg of the contest opens for entries on Monday 18th November and closes on Friday 20th December 2019.


5 best entries would be selected from each of the six (6) geo-political zones in Nigeria (North-central, North-east, North-west, South-south, South-east, and South-west) for the next round in February 2020.


Another Essay topic will be sent to all the 30 contestants who qualify from the first round.
Then, the best entry in the second round will be selected from each region for the grand finale of the competition.
The final round of the competition will be held on 20th March 2020 in Lagos. The six contestants will be given the room to have a projected presentation on how data for each of their initial entries were gathered, among other factors that informed their conclusions.



The best presentation wins:
 
Rewards
1st prize: Two million naira (N2,000,000)
2nd prize: One million naira (N1,000,000)
3rd prize: Five hundred thousand naira (N500,000)
Remaining three (3) finalists are to receive plaques and the sum of N150,000 each
All second-round finalist will receive gifts.
 


How to Enter the Competition:

Applicants are to write an essay on the topic: “Holistic Education: The Solution to Nigeria’s Socio-economic Challenges” (number of words: 500 - 1,000).

Entries are to be submitted online at www.degreesandcareers.info/lead


Entries must be typed and saved as Microsoft Office Word document or PDF and uploaded on the link provided above.


The use of graphs, pictures, tables or charts (for PDF entries) is allowed, but will not be added to the word count.


Applicants are to include their full name, age, school, word count and class on the cover page of their entries.


All entries are facilitated by the team at MOD IELTS Test Center, an accredited test center for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
