GASHUA is confronted by a disaster (kidney failure)
A problem is only a problem if we refuse to look for a solution, if we don't take action to fix it then it will remain a problem forever. Our people are suffering and some are dying because of a renal failure and we believe that is not natural, because our grand fathers do not encounter such problem during there life time, on this issue so many prediction were made that the problem is from the water we use, and if it is from the water, did we ask our self that how come the water is conterminated, is it because we use some chemicals in dry season farming which is enjected into the water indirectly or from the waste we dispose in the enviroment, and now we can not conclude unless a collective research is conducted on both the water, soil, air and the food we eat.
This is serious issue that need better attention and if we refused to look for a way forward today, tommorow we may be the victims of such menance, we have seen an effort made by professor Maimuna Waziri together with Mohammad Musa Lawan on THE INCIDENCE OF LEAD (pb) AND CADMIUM (CD) IN THE VEGETABLES, AND THEIR POTENTIAL HEALTH RISK TO CONSUMERS IN GASHUA.
Some heavy metals are toxic while others are very essential in the human system, ingestion of vegetables is a major route through which heavy metals enters the human body. In their findings they select some vegetables produced in Gashua for the study where by two heavy metals is aimed to determine (Lead pb / Cadmium cd) which are toxins known to accumulate in human tissue, which may cause health injuries particularly kidney problem.
And finally at the end of the research, they find out the levels of the two heavy metals, whereby the recommended limit in the food established by NAFDAC, EU and WHO/FAO, the level of heavy metals, value suggest health risk to the consumers of the vegetables. And this is as a result of waste disposal, use of fertilizers and pesticides in agriculture, may be responsible for contermination. Now research was performed on the vegetables we eat, and it may be their is another thing which causes this renal failure apart from the selected vegetables which may be found possibly in the water or the soil itself.
I want use this medium to let everyone know that this issue is every body business as far as you can contribute with your energy, intellectually, advisibly as well as financially, we should not always put everything on few people shoulder alone, we spend so much time and funds on final research work in school, why not use Gashua as a case of study, we should pls use the little knowledge we have to save people from this problem. It was reported last year 2018 that yobe as second state highest cases of kidney problem in the northeast region in which 85% of people attending YSUTH with kidney problem are from GASHUA.
