COURT SACKS JAMES SOWOLE ONDO NUJ LED EXECUTIVE
The National Industrial court sitting in Akure, has sacked the James Sowole-led NUJ state executive. In a judgement delivered by Hon. Justice A.A Adewemimo ,the court described the selection of the credential committee by the out gone state executive of NUJ as unconstitutional and unlawful.
Consequently, the court ordered that the certificate of return issued to Mr Sowole be withdrawn while fresh election should be held within 30days .
The court also described the swearing-in of Mr. Sowole on the 3rd of November, 2017 as direct affront on the court. According to the court, it was a gross indiscipline to swear-in a party to a case before a competent court of jurisdiction.
The court had earlier over ruled the preliminary injection by the defendant challenging the jurisdiction of the Court to entertain the case . According the court, the right to be heard is personal and fundamental human rights which could not be violated by legal technicalities.
The court finally ordered the National Secretariat of NUJ to immediately set up an interim committee to pilot the affairs of the council for the 30 days.
