DELTA STATE UNIVERSITY ABRAKA: UNENDING DELAY IN RELEASE OF NURSING RESULTS AT DELSU

As a parent, I have decided to write to the press concerning the delay in the release of my children’s results in nursing department, Delta State University, Abraka.
I have three children in Delta State University Abraka (DELSU), two of them are in nursing department while one is in pharmacy. The one in pharmacy graduated this year and has done her induction because her result was released promptly as a result of the competent  lecturers in her department but my son in nursing department that graduated last year is yet to see his result let alone doing his induction and going for national service. He called his head of department today only for her to say that ‘your class result is the least thing on my mind’, you can imagine such words coming from the head of department, I mean if she cannot be efficient enough to prepare the results of her students that have graduated since over a year now, I wonder what exactly she is doing on that seat, since she has proven not to be competent.
Then my daughter that graduated since this year June is yet to see her result let alone doing her induction and going for national service whereas her counterparts in other departments like pharmacy have done their induction and departments like anatomy, physiology etc have long gone for service( since August) and these departments have larger population than nursing department, also taking a survey into nursing department in other universities such as University of Ibadan, Obafemi Awololo University, Niger Delta University, they do not delay their students and that shows the level of  their efficiency, dedication and competence unlike in DELSU where nursing lecturers lack all these.

Here are the implications of this delay:
My children have not done their induction, which is a necessary requirement to proceed to the next level of their lives.
They cannot do their mandatory internship for one year.
They are losing series of opportunities open for their internship especially at Federal Medical Center Asaba, University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Benin City. Etc.
They cannot undergo their national youth service corps which is supposed to be for a year.

The causes of the delay in the preparation of results in nursing science department, Delta State University are as follows:
Negligence on the part of the course adviser and the head of department.
Incompetence of lecturers in nursing department DELSU.
Failure to compile results after each semester for the senate to approve, instead they keep accumulating students results until they are in their final year and preparing these accumulated results become cumbersome and having so many errors so that the senate will disapprove the results.
Poor technological know-how, still using analog instead of digital system.
Their unending delay in preparing results promptly will lead them nowhere.
Lecturers in nursing department, DELSU keep on giving different flimsy excuses for their incompetences. The only way to disprove the above facts is for the Nursing Department to produce my children’s results now because my children have actually missed going for service this year despite the different batches.

The notion that the senate disapproves the results is not a good reason for the delay; of course the senate will disapprove wrongly prepared results because they are competent and will not allow the lecturers to ruin the lives of students because of their incompetence and unending errors in the students results.

When I called the Head Of Department  Nursing Science, DELSU, MRS MUKORO U. J, she said she have no business in my children’s result, that they will inform the students anytime is ready even if it takes years and since then she has stopped picking my calls (although my children have confirmed that is usually her habit, as she runs away from responsibilities by ignoring calls, even other lecturers can attest to this fact)
The course adviser on the other hand, will not say anything  about the result. I have called her severally on the result, she keeps saying that is not ready and recently she too stopped picking my calls.
With the above statements I will say that both the head of department and the course adviser, nursing  science, DELSU  are incompetent.
My children are not the only ones who studied nursing. They have friends studying nursing  in other universities like Niger Delta University, Nnamdi Azikwe University, University of Nigeria Nsukka,etc  where their results are not delayed. So, permit me to say that this act of delay is an outright wickedness.

RECOMMENDATIONS
Competent lecturers should be employed in nursing department, DELSU. In the interim, competent hands should be taken from the faculty of Basic Medical Sciences to head the nursind department  because of their competence.
A mandatory policy should be made for all nursing lecturers in department of Nursing , DELSU,  on the transition from analog to digital.
Computer operators should be employed to handle all computer works in Nursing department, Delsu.
A policy should be made on the disciplinary measures to be taken against incompetent lecturers in Nursing department, Delsu.
Failure to prepare results in due time like other departments or delay in preparing results in nursing department, Delsu should not be condoled.
