INEC To Expand Polling Unit,Sends Message To Electorates Ahead Of Osun 2022

As the Osun state 2022 gubernatorial election approaches ,the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has assured electoral of the state that voting exercise will be more seamless than before.

INEC made this known on Thursday during Election Stakeholders Forum On Expansion of Voters Access To Polling Units In Nigeria held at the commission’s headquarters, Osogbo.

Speaking, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Osun State, Mr Olusegun Agbaje said INEC is working relentless to establish new polling units in each registration area .

Mr Agbaje explained that the proposed new polling units which he said will be rectified by the chairman of the commission on Monday will encourage voters of the state to exercise their civic responsibility without being denied of their franchise.

He said ” Presently, in Osun, there are 3,010 polling units and 753 voting points to cater for a voting population of 1,680,498 registered voters in the state, adding that the available polling units are inadequate for voters as a result of population growth and establishment of new settlements in many area across the state.

He added that polling units would no longer be in front of private houses, palaces and religion institutions, it would now be moved to government institutions or open places.
