Fierce Battle in Imo As Security Forces Kill 11 IPOB/ESN Fighters

The Nigerian Army has disclosed that 11 members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) linked to the proscribed group, Indigenous People of Biafra, have been killed by security forces.

The army said troops along with policemen killed the ESN fighters when they launched an attack on the police command in the Orlu local government area of Imo state on Thursday night May 6.

Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima, a spokesperson for the army in a statement via Facebook on Friday, May 7, stated that the IPOB/ESN terrorists were completely obliterated when a reinforcement team of the Nigerian Army and Nigerian Air Force came to support the police personnel.

He said: “The attackers were resisted by vigilant police personnel at the Area Command and were completely obliterated when a reinforcement team of the Nigerian Army and Nigerian Air Force arrived the scene.

“The assailants who have been on the radar of the Joint Technical Intelligence Team were said to have come from a Forest Camp in Ideato North LGA of Imo State from where they mobilised and planned the failed attack.''

Yerima stated that some weapons recovered from the ESN members included four AK47, one G3, and one pump action rifle, as well as a berretta pistol, charms, and assorted ammunition.

He said the seven operational vehicles used for the attack were demobilized, forcing the remaining injured gunmen to escape on foot with fatal injuries.

The spokesperson noted that there were no casualties on the side of the security forces.
