Sunday Erhabor: Lagos Policeman Assaulted by Motorist Bags N1m Cash Gift from Impressed Nigerians

ASP Sunday Erhabor, the Lagos policeman who displayed professionalism and uncommon restraint in the face of provocation by a motorist, has been gifted N1 million.

The Punch reports that some Nigerians who were impressed by Erhabor's professional handling of a situation that might have led to another case of extra-judicial killing raised the money and presented it to him on Wednesday, April 21.

A traffic offender, Victor Ebhomenyen, had on Saturday, April 17, assaulted the policeman and inflicted severe body injuries on him but he kept calm despite having his official AK-47 rifle with him.

Erhabor's action was widely praised by Nigerians after a video of the encounter went viral on social media.

The development got the attention of the governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who invited Erhabor and present him with a plaque of honour. Legit.ng gathers that a total of 158 donors raised the N1 million which was gifted to Erhabor on Wednesday, April 21.

Erhabor has also reported confirmed receipt of a N1 million cheque issued in his name. He was quoted to have said: “I received a cheque of one million naira this afternoon. I feel so excited and I thank all Nigerians.

This shows to me that Nigerians have not lost hope in the police.”

The donation was started on Sunday, April 18, by a Facebook user, Ugo Egbujo.

He explained that the idea behind the donation is to support and encourage ethical, responsible policing.
