Hundreds of Nigerian Farmers, Traders in Tears as Fire Destroys Food Items Worth Millions in Yam Market



The popular Namu Central Yam Market in Qua’anpan local government area of Plateau state has been gutted by fire, Daily Trust reported. 


According to the newspaper, goods, foodstuff and other valuables worth millions of Naira were destroyed in the fire outbreak which happened on Sunday night, March 28. 


VAM News gathers that hundreds of farmers and traders affected by the fire outbreak have been counting their loss. 




 The victims of the fire incident have called on the state government and public-spirited individuals to come to their aid.


 An anonymous witness said the cause of the fire incident was still not known, Daily Nigerian also reported. Reacting, Hon. Komsol Alphonsus Longgap, the member representing Mikang, Shendam, and Quaanpan constituency in the Federal House of Representative, said he was deeply touched and worried by the tragedy. 


He tweeted: "My heart and thoughts are with the entire people of Quaanpan LGA, most especially my immediate constituents of Namu district who were directly affected. "I am calling on each and every one of my constituents from Mikang/Quaanpan/Shendam federal constituency to commit them to prayers, so that the Lord Almighty will comfort them and bring succour to them."
