Another civil war looming? Presidency sends strong message to Igboho

Contrary to fears expressed by persons who are fidgeting over calls by some persons in the southwest for secession, the presidency has given an assurance to Nigerians.

A presidential media aide, Lauretta Onochie, in her tweet on Monday, March 29, told fellow citizens that the country will not suffer disintegration nor go through another civil war under President Muhammadu Buhari's administration.

Banking on the fact that President Buhari is a veteran of the 1967-1970 civil war, Onochie asserted the nation's number one citizen will not allow a repeat of such a horrible experience.

She, therefore, called on persons like Sunday Igboho and his accomplices to shelve the idea as the president is still in charge as the chief security officer of the country.

Her tweet: "President @MBuhari, a veteran of the Nigerian civil war (1967-1970) has reassured Nigerians that there'll be no civil war nor break up of our nation under his watch "So can Igboho and others with nuisance values now go home. Nigeria is stronger than their sponsors. We're stronger together."

Meanwhile, the Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE) had distanced itself from the secessionist call being championed by Igboho. Kunle Olajide, the secretary-general of the YCE said Igboho does not represent the Yoruba people in his call for secession.

VAM News gathered that Olajide said Nigeria would be stronger if it remained as a unit. He added that the Yoruba people had invested so much in Nigeria’s formation and unity, and it would be unwise for them to seek secession.

Olajide also debunked Igboho's claim that Yoruba monarchs and elders were behind him.

The YCE secretary-general said there was no platform where the traditional rulers met with Igboho.
