It's sad Nigerians can't criticise president they elected, ex-Ekiti governor kicks over Dawisu's arrest, sack

Ayo Fayose, ex-governor of Ekiti state, has joined millions of Nigerians calling for the release of Salihu Tanko-Yakasai, a Kano critic who was arrested on Saturday, February 27, by the operatives of the State Security Service (SSS).

Yakasai was whisked away on Saturday, February 27, by the personnel of the intelligence agency from Kano state to Abuja hours after he criticised the Muhammadu Buhari-led government on its poor handling of the security crisis in respects to the recent abduction in Zamfara and Niger.

Abdullahi Umaru Ganduje who Yakasai served as a media aide also gave him a marching order, saying he (Yakasai) was sacked with "immediate effect" because his statement on social media generated "superfluous controversy."

Fayose said it is now a crime to criticise President Buhari.

Dawisu's sack is the final straw that broke the camel's back having been suspended for the same reason of criticising the Buhari-led government during the #EndSARS protest.

In a series of tweets, former governor Fayose said he joins all well-meaning Nigerians to demand for the immediate release of Yakasai.

"That dawisu was arrested like a common criminal by the DSS just because he spoke his mind against a President that is more like the servant of the people is another sad commentary on how low this APC govt of Buhari has gone.

"Sad that under this govt, our security men are only efficient in persecuting whoever speaks against the President.

"Sad that Nigerians can't criticize the same President who did not only speak against his predecessors, but also led protests."
