Another tragedy as other Nigerians shoot 22 dead at Zamfara gold mine
In another heartwrenching incident in Nigeria, some innocent Nigerians have been killed by bandits in Zamfara state.
The criminals on Thursday, February 25, killed at least 22 people in a deadly raid, Daily Trust reports.
According to the news outlet, the incident happened at a gold mine near Sabuwar Tunga village in Dankurmi district of Maru local government area.
According to some residents, the criminals had earlier invaded a nearby village called Koda with the intent of rustling cattle but met fierce resistance from the highly organized residents of the community.
In fact, the leader of the bandits was killed by the residents who were able to recover all their rustled cattle.
After this, they organized themselves and went to the gold mine near Sabuwar Tunga village.
They laid siege when most of the residents were attending a weekly market trading in Dankurmi community.
A source said:
“They asked the traders who mostly sell soft drinks to come for a meeting and when about eight of them gathered for the purported meeting, they shot them in the head at close range."
“They then to the mining pits and blocked all escape routes before they began shooting dead the artisanal miners at close range.”
Recall that VAM News had reported that some households have been thrown into mourning as gunmen wasted the lives of some policemen in Calabar, Rivers state.
The incident happened at a checkpoint when the criminals swooped on the unsuspecting policemen at Ayanmbat community near Idundu in the Aka Efa area of the Cross River capital.
The policemen were killed while resting at the location.
