UI, Covenant University And University Of Nigeria Rank Best Universities In Nigeria

The University of Ibadan (UI), Covenant University, Ota (CU) and University of Nigeria (UNN) have been ranked first, second and third best university in Nigeria respectfully by the Webometrics in its report released recently.

Obafemi Awolowo University and University of Lagos are the two other Nigerian universities ranked in the top five.

The "Webometrics Ranking of World Universities" is an initiative of the Cybermetrics Lab, a research group belonging to the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), the largest public research body in Spain.

According to Webometrics, the universities were ranked based on transparency, visibility and excellence.

Globally, University of Washington ranked best followed by Cornell University and John Hopkins University, all in the United States.

In Africa, University of Cape Town, Stellenbosch University, both in South Africa, and University of Cairo ranked top three in Africa in that order.

UI which is ranked in 1216th globally is 18th in Africa and Covenant University (21st in Africa) ranked 1324th in the world while University of Nigeria ranked 28th in Africa and 1609th best in the world.
