Real Reason Nigerian Polytechnic Workers Threatened To Commence Strike


In a Press Statement on Thursday, The President of the Senior Staff Association Of Nigeria Polytechnic (SSANP), Adebanjo Ogunsipe, said the union will begin a warning strike on January 4, 2021. Mr Ogunsipe said the strike will last for 14days.


He said the declaration was owing to the non challant attitude of the Federal Government towards issues bordering on education. He also said that the Polytechnic and tertiary education system in the last years generally have a myriad of problems militating against their development.


He stated that the association's demands is an implementation of needs assessment report and the release of funds for the Polytechnic sector.


He also demanded for the immediate release of the scheme of service for the Polytechnic, payment of complete salaries in arrears of minimum wage for staffs in the Polytechnic sector and payment of outstanding salaries to staffs of polytechnics and colleges in some states across the country.


According to Me Ogunsipe, other demands are; Constitution of governing councils in all Federal and State  Polytechnics, and the investigation of the Rector of Federal Polytechnic Ekowe.



The Union also stood ground with the Academic Staff Union Of Universities in denouncing the non challant attitude of the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) payment platform of the Federal Government to issues of (SSANP) as regards salaries of members.
