Offa Poly Student who Survived ghastly auto crash narrates horror incident(photos)
Contrary to the widely circulated rumour on the numbers of death recorded in a ghastly accident along Ojoku Road that involved Students of the Federal Polytechnic Offa, an eyewitness who is a survivor has debunked all rumour as he is back home alive and kicking.
The Rector Dr. Lateef Olatunji accompanied by Deputy Rector Administration, Dr. Olarongbe Afolabi, Dean of Students’ Affairs, Sir Gbenga Aleminu, Director of IJMB, Pastor Kunle Israel, Secretary to the Rector, Mr Tajudeen Adegboye, Chief Procurement Officer, Mr. Wasiu Folorunsho, Head of Department of Mass Communication, Mr. Wole Alawode, Director of Information, Public Relations and Protocols; Olayinka Iroye and group of Mass Communication students have visited Korode Opeyemi who is one of the survivors in his residence at Offa Kwara State.
Opeyemi, an HND 1 student of Mass Communication expressed gratitude to God for safety and for miraculously keeping other students involved in the accident alive. He further thanked the Management for their prompt action and proactive intervention at ensuring they are medically attended to.
According to him, ” I sat at the front of the tricycle and I don’t know how I found myself in the bush. We were six in the tricycle and not eight as widely circulated. The Toyota Camry car over speeding just crushed us. No student died and it is also a rumour that four people died. I am okay now and I can walk. I’m a Christian and coordinator of media in my Church.” He said.
Reacting to fake news in circulation on number of dead casualties, the Rector expressed disappointment against rumour peddlers on social media and charged media practitioners to always equip themselves with accurate facts and figures when dealing with information capable of aggravating tension in the society as students who were involved in the accident are all responding to treatment.
He said: “We thank God that we are able to speak with one of the survivors who is back home hale and hearty. The Management regrets the fatal incident and condoles with Union of Tricycle riders and the Community at large”
The Dean of Students’ Affairs, speaking with survivor said: “The Management is concerned about the lives of students and will do everything possible to uphold that. We thank God that you are back home while others are also in a stable condition. We pray to God to continue to protect all staff, students and community at large against satanic influence.”
