Like Lagos, Kwara govt moves to scrap pension for Saraki, Ahmed others
Barely three days after the Lagos state government moved to scrap the pension for former governors and their deputies in the state, the Kwara state has followed the suit.
VAM News reports that the governor of the state, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, said in a thread of tweets on Friday, November 13, that he would send a bill to the state House of Assembly to revoke the law awarding pension packages to former governors and former deputy governors in the state.
The governor emphasised that the state needs all the resources it can get to improve human capital development, adding that the limited resources would be spent on tackling poverty and youth unemployment.

He tweeted:
"In line with our campaign mantra and the yearnings of our people, next week I will be sending a bill to the State House of Assembly to revoke the law awarding pension packages to former governors and former deputy governors in Kwara State.
"Our state needs all the resources it can get to improve our human capital development. I believe our limited resources are better spent on tackling the question of poverty and youth unemployment."
Meanwhile, VAM News had previously reported that the governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, announced his intention to repeal the public office holder payment of pension law 2007.
It was reported that Governor Sanwo-Olu's senior special assistant on new media, Gawat Jubril, made this known via a tweet on Tuesday, November 10.
Jubril said the governor announced the plan while presenting the 2021 budget to the Lagos state House of Assembly.
In a related report, the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, reacted to the plan of Governor Sanwo-Olu to abolish the pension package for former governors and their deputies.
The APC leader commended Governor Sanwo-Olu over the plan as he added that he "wholeheartedly" supported him.
Tinubu who is a former governor of Lagos made this known in a thread of tweets posted via his official Twitter page on Wednesday, November 11.
