BREAKING: Nigerian Journalists, fuel price/electricity tariff hike protesters arrested, dispersed

Men of the Nigeria Police force have forcefully dispersed protesting members of Socialist Party of Nigeria, SPN and National Conscience Party, NCP, at Ojuelegba area of Lagos state and arrested several of them.



The group was protesting against deregistration of political parties and increase in fuel price and electricity tariff.










VOICE AIR MEDIA learnt that a PREMIUM TIMES’ journalist, Ifeoluwa Adediran, her colleagues were part of the arrested people.



Also, the officers manhandled a Sahara Reporters’ journalist alongside several protesters in an attempt to round them up and take them to the Area C Police Command in Surulere.











The protest was organised by the Socialist Party of Nigeria; the group is demanding a reversal in the actions of the government.


According to reports, the protest was against the recent increase in fuel price and electricity tariff.

Recall that a similar protest also held in Osun, Ondo, Oyo and Ogun states, on Tuesday.


Where dozens of tertiary institutions’ students under the aegis of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) , Zone D protested in lowkey in Lagos over hike in electricity tariff and petrol price in the country.


Noting that, On Wednesday, September 2, the Federal Government through the Petroleum Pricing Marketing Company (PPMC) increased the ex-depot price of petrol from N138 to N151.56 per litre, forcing marketers to increase pump price from N148 to N162 per litre.










Also on September 1, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) directed the various electricity distribution companies in the country to begin the implementation of the new electricity tariff regime which will see Nigerians paying more for electricity.
