The Nigerian Students under the umbrella body of National association of Nigerian Students in Southwest - Zone D, has expressed frustration at the lingering silence towards electricity blackout in Ekiti State University.

In a statement made available to VOICE AIR MEDIA by Assistant general secretary, national association OF Nigerian students (NANS) ZONE D, Comrade Ibukun titilayo samuel on Monday morning.

It reads;

OFFICE OF THE ASSISTANT GENERAL SECRETARY, NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA STUDENTS (NANS) ZONE D AND NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA STUDENTS JOINT CAMPUS COMMITTEE (NANS-JCC) EKITI AXIS

NANS FUMES AT THE BLACKOUT IN EKITI STATE UNIVERSITY

With great discontentment to the negligence of Nigerian Students have (we), the umbrella body of Nigerian Students in Southwest - Zone D, express our frustration at the lingering silence towards electricity blackout in Ekiti State University.

"If the child does not cry, the mother may not know what it wants"._ for over a decade,  total blackout has become a culture, whereof,  electricity has been a distant cry rather than manifestation in Ekiti State University, and despite the numerous cries and agitations for help from both innocent students and their  leaders over the years, this problem remains unsolved, untouched and unnoticed by the School Management, electricity authority and State Government.

Having been let down in the dump with exorbitant fees and levies at our behest, it is unjust to deny us our right to good life, as electricity in school area greases and help academic success via ease of reading and research engagements after paying the university management for internet connection. However, this luxury seems impossible without stable supply of light.

Apparently, the world as a global village through the internet which helps in providing 'home away from home' avenue regarding the tools of academic excellence.
Consequently, the total  blackout in the university community have led to series of social vices such as: stealing of phones in charging booths or opposite hostels, rape of vulnerable female students while returning from night classes/charging booths,  more worsening, darkness within the students residential areas has become conducive abode and safe heaven  for criminals since there is no light to uncover cruel motives.  Without gainsaying, this unfortunate situation, coupled with students inability to read expressly owing to blackout incapacitation, there have been a decline in students academic performance.

However, we call on all functional individals and boards which Includes Dr Israel Ovirih,who is the Chief Executive Officer and founding Director,A Development Economist and Swiss-trained Structured Finance specialist, The EKSU Alumni National President , Asiwaju Dotun Adetunberu, Former Alumni President Mr Akadri, ASUU EKSU Chairman, Dr K.K Arogundade,Hon Bimbo Daramola, Former Member House of Representatives, Hon Sunshine Anifowose, Hon Oso Oluwayomi,Vice Chairman,Ado local government and all Former Students union presidents and leaders which are equally recognized in the society today,Comrade Adedeji Oso, former SUG President now Ekiti State University Alumni Chairman,Ekiti State. Comrade Sola fayemi,Kehinde Okunuga, Olalekan Shittu Utilitarian, Hon Aribasoye Adeoye representing Ikole constituency II , Ibitola Victor Sugarito et Al, never  to maintain muteness and allow darkness to take over their Alma Mata without rendering their voices.

On the flip side,  Dr John Kayode Fayemi came with the slogan of 'Restoration' if we can remember, then, why should the State University environment still be in darkness? as it ought to be the first restoration to take place.

It is also noteworthy that since inception of the new Governing council led by Prof Omole and University Management led by The Vice Chancellor, Prof K.K Olanipekun,  there has been no significant attention to our plights on the issue of electricity, but since our silence seems to be mistook for cowardice, then we think the time is now to  take a bold step.

Conclusively, as forerunners of Students' interest in the state, we demand swift action, and this time around, immediate intervention rather than vain pledges towards ensuring a well lightened Students environment in EKSU.
It is our sincere hope that our demands are treated with utmost adherence and urgency..

Thanks.

God bless Ekiti State University
