Women are thriving to be part of the world notable activities. But society of men's rule is not giving much chance to them, VOICE AIR MEDIA reports.
Just 2 day ago, All Progressive Candidate (APC) had their primaries in Ondo State towards the forthcoming governorship election that will take place in October 2020. And it involves 9 aspirants, among them was a woman.
It is worthy of note that, many followers of politics don't always observe the presence of women in Nigeria politics, the exact thing that is affecting the only woman who is contesting in the Ondo governorship election since 2016.
Meet Jumoke Ajasin Anifowoshe
Jumoke Ajasin-Anifowoshe is a Nigerian Lawyer and Legal practitioner who was a governorship aspirant for Ondo 2020, and took part in the primaries of the All Progressive Candidate election on Monday (20th July). She tussled the position of Flag bearer with the current Governor, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
She polled just 2 votes out of the over 3000 delegates who voted. Her votes may not count for the position of Flag bearer but it count for the name of women who made marks in Nigeria politics. She was also a part of the 24 contestants under the same party in 2016, aspiring for same sit.
Jumoke Picking up Nomination form in 2016 at Abuja.
She will get there someday, since she is not new in the game. She was once appointed as Attorney-General and also Commissioner of Justice of Ondo state years back. There is no doubt that she took resemblance of her father when it comes to politics - she happens to be the only politician among her four siblings, and she is the Last child of the ex-governor.
Micheal Adekule Ajasin Ex-Governor of Ondo state (1979 - 1983)
Jumoke's Father, Micheal Adekule Ajasin, was former governor of Ondo State (October 1979 – October 1983) on the Unity Party of Nigerian (UPN) platform during the Second Republic. Her father was known as a good leader who worked effectively and faithfully for mankind. Ajasin's leadership wass not forgotten and he was immortalised by naming him after the popular Ondo State University (Adekule Ajadin University) in Akungba Akoko by the then Governor Adefarati. Her father left the world at 88 years of age, in 1997.
Jumoke herself, grew up like every other children; she claimed to climb mango trees as a young child, just that, the little difference was that she was sheltered properly.
Becoming a lawyer was a childhood ambition for her, and it became her real profession. Apart from being a lawyer she is an arbitrator and a mediator.
She is a mother of three children. She once told PUNCH newspaper that one of her best moment is when her son, Babatunde gave her a grandson. She chuckled when her son describe what happened in the labour room - her daughter in-law was speaking in tongue during the course of child birth.
Fun Facts about her
Jumoke strike facial resemblance with her Father, Adekunle.
No wonder she also took the political 'gene' from his father.
