WHAT IS DEMOCRACY?  THE MAKING OF A BETTER NATION

1. Mr. Theodore Parker defined Democracy as: "The direct self-government over all the people, by all the people and for all the people."

2. Years later, Mr. Webster drew inspiration from that definition and defined it as: "The people's government, made for the people, by the people and answerable to the people."

3. That means that the current day definition of democracy which is considered a "perfect" definiton is not original to one man - not Abraham Lincoln.

4. For me Democracy is a Government where the populace are part of the decision making process of governance; it is an inclusive government where every member of the public matters.

5. Democracy is a government where the lives and properties of the governed are of utmost relevance to those in power; they cherish it and will defend it with all vigour and National strength.

6. Democracy is a government where all ethnic groups, tribes, people, state, religion and Nationality are treated equal without nepotism and prejudice.

7. Democracy is a system of government where the rich, the poor, the ruling class, the citizens, everyone has same access to a fair justice system. It is a scale that equates everyone before the law.

8. Democracy is a form of government where the votes of the electorates that chooses the representatives should also bring them home when they have misrepresented the people and misplaced the citizens priority.

9. Democracy is a government that makes  quality health care accessible to the masses and see the public hospitals equipped to it's finest.
It is a government where the Governor and the governed are being treated in the same hospital in the rural and urban areas.

10. Democracy is a transparent government where each leader is accountable to the led and policies and decisions can be questioned, put to hold by any member of the public.

11. Democracy is a style that makes the Honourable Ministers and Senators and Members of House of Representatives and Governors board same public transport with the populace, alight and even help them to carry their luggages if need be; it makes the citizens feel loved.

12. Democracy is a prototype of a working Government, no budget padding, no unaccountable funds, no diverted public goods; it is a government owned by the people.

13. Democracy is a government where we can run to the houses of the leaders, play with their children and cry on their shoulders; it is a government where the commoners children cannot be separated from the children of the wealthy.

14. Democracy is a government where the representatives are close and accessible. There are no orderlies to stop the old woman, the dying man and the helpless children from pouring their cries, their fears, their sorrows to Mr. Governor or Mr. Senator.

15. Democracy is a system of government where our schools are standard and accommodates everyone.
In democracy education is a right not a privilege to a very few.

16. Democracy is a government where law breakers get punished irrespective of who's child is the culprit and our women and girls are confident to walk through the streets without fear of being molested.

17. This is what democracy is all about.
We may not have been practicing democracy in Nigeria but it's a new day for a new turn.
The tides can truly change and once more we can redeem the lost glory of the pride of the earth and the giant of Africa.

18. Our heroes past has paid selfless prices safe but a few; we have a future to uphold so our children will be born in a Nation of equality and shared prosperity.

19. The Clarion call is on us all.
The responsibility has been meted to us all; it's left for us to shoulder it and pull through.

20. Unity of purpose is all we need; whether you are Yoruba or Hausa or Igbo or Ijaw or Tiv, there is no time as delicate as now where we must come together and rebuild our heritage.
No more feuding fences - it's time to build bridges.

21. Yes! Nigeria shall be great again

Happy democracy day

Signed
Joshua Nicholas MrNigeria🇳🇬
