This is the beginning of coronavirus in Nigeria - FG tells Nigerians

Following the recent rise in the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country, with over13000 confirmed cases reported, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has disclosed that COVID-19 may just be beginning in the country.

It would be noted that since the outbreak of the deadly virus in China, the world has been hit with the pandemic and lots of things have been put on a hold in a bid to curtail the spread of the deadly virus.

As at June 09, 2020, 9:23am, the number of confirmed cases of the virus stands at 7,216,252, with 409,092 deaths recorded and 3,552,333 patients successfully discharged.

America remains the epicentre of the virus with 2,026,597 confirmed cases, 113,061 deaths and 773,505 recovered patients.

Addressing the House of Representatives on Monday, when members of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) appeared before a joint committee of the House, the NCDC Director-General, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, disclosed that the country might just be experiencing COVID-19 in its full force.

“We are still in the middle of a very, very bad outbreak. In fact, it is most likely that we are at the beginning of a very bad outbreak. This is the honest truth.

“And as we dig into the details of what we have done, I really crave your indulgence to please, bear in mind that we do this work together, because we really have a collective responsibility to our people,” the NCDC boss said.

However, when quizzed on the ongoing rumour of the text messages that is sent to Nigerians for sensitization, the NCDC DG denied claims that millions of Naira has been spent to send messages to people.
