The school of Science and Computer Studies (SSCS) of the Federal Polytechnic Ado Ekiti has been commended for coming up with locally produced liquid detergent and hand Sanitizer as part of the Institution’s efforts at containing the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Giving the commendation on Friday, while taking delivery of 30 bottles of one litter liquid detergent and about 200 pieces of 100ml-size Hand sanitizer, the Rector, Dr Dayo Oladebeye described the efforts of the SSCS as commendable and a welcome development.
The Rector, who was visibly excited by the products said the Faculty had lived up to the challenge given to all arms of the polytechnic community mandating them to come up with responsive solution to the COVID-19 pandemic, which he observed has had terrific onslaught against the world economy.
Stressing that since we cannot afford to leave Government alone in the task of fighting the pandemic, hence all are enjoined to continue to seek new knowledge and solutions aimed at curtailing the ravaging pandemic.
He added that the Polytechnic will continue to do its best in identifying with the Society on the new way of life dictated by COVID-19, while not neglecting the culture of regular hand washing and other hygienic practices to curtail its spread, having already become a reality that may last for a while hence the need for all hands to be on deck.
Dr Oladebeye, who commended the initiatives behind the products, as explained by the Dean of SSCS, Mr. Sunday Osayinlusi, as well as Dr.Jide Afolayan and Dr Oluwatuwase Idowu, who are respectively Heads of the Departments of Science Laboratory Technology and Arts & Industrial Design, further
challenged other arms of the polytechnic not to waste time in also coming up with their response to curb the spread of the pandemic as a way of giving back to the society.
Registrar of the Polytechnic, Mrs Kehinde Ekanem in her remarks commended the departments and the School for coming up with such laudable products that hallmarks the Polytechnic as a Corporately responsive Institution in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, thereby identifying with the needs of the society.
It will be recalled that the Polytechnic had earlier, about three weeks ago donated thousands (1,500) of face masks produced by its Centre for Entrepreneurship Studies CEDVS to the Media, some government agencies in the state and residents of its Erinfun neighboring community in Ado-Ekiti.
