2020: APC group steps against Akeredolu reelection bid in Ondo over Anti-party

By Tunde Olorungbotemi

A support group of the ruling All Progressive Congress APC, the Ondo APC Mandate Group OAMG, kicked against Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s reelection offer and warned the party’s national leadership not to hand over the ticket to him.

The mandate group claimed that the APC lost the 2019 presidential election in the state because the governor worked against the party’s interests.

The group’s Convener Olugbenga Bojuwomi spoke to journalists at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Friday, saying the party should simply forget to win the state if Akeredolu chooses the ticket and threatens to work against the APC.

“We do not expect the party’s national leadership to allow Akeredolu to contest the primaries. If we were in a reasonable society and the party operated normally, we would not expect Akeredeolu to still be in the party.

“If the party introduces Akeredolu as the only candidate after the July primary, we, the APC members in Ondo, will conduct our anti-party activities by fighting the APC during the elections. APC should just forget about the Ondo state when the Akeredolus party rewards infidelity because it means that infidelity pays off.

“It is wrong to believe that the members of the State Assembly who buy a form for him speak volumes of his support.

“We all know how the legislature works in this country. The situation is the same in the state. They are always the governors’ henchmen. Wherever he goes, they go. You are a stamp legislator. Whatever comes from them is not funny because they are only bidding. “

The group claimed that the duo of Governor Akeredolu and Ade Adetimehin had been captured in a video during the campaigns for their anointed Action Alliance AA party to the detriment of APC, and added that the clips had been sent to the national headquarters and the presidency long before No measures were taken.

Bojuwomi said that Action Alliance AA had put up candidates during the 2019 elections, which led to APC’s defeat in the state of Ondo.

The group also said, “The pocket of violence sponsored by Governor Akeredolu in which his thugs attacked loyal APC members before the general election in Owo, his hometown, reappeared last week.

“Chief Olaide Adelami, one of the leading governor aspirants of a campaign vehicle, was destroyed with bullets and machete.”

In response to allegations of anti-party activity, Ondo State House of Assembly deputy spokesman Adeboboye Samuel, who led a group to purchase the governor’s nomination form, said Akeredolu was not authorized to stop those in the state Ondo against APC fought in the last general election.

He said, “I’m glad you said that the allegation came from a group of people. There is no fractionation within the APC in the state of Ondo, but when you talk about interest groups, you can’t get divorced from politics. They are the people who always want to terrorize the governor.

“The governor spoke of anti-party and never visited a place to promote anyone. He has no right to stop those who contested under the AA platform. “
