Oldest Nigerian COVID-19 Patient in Lagos recovers and Discharged

Thousands of Nigerians both home and abroad have commended the Lagao State Government as a 98-year-old female, the oldest COVID-19 patient in Lagos, has recovered from the infectious disease.

She was discharged from one of the isolation centres in the state, according to Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos, on Wednesday night, May 13.

It was gathered that the old woman was one of the 26 patients discharged in Lagos on Wednesday, after testing negative twice for COVID-19.

"Today, we discharged a 98 year old woman, our oldest #COVID19 patient in Lagos. She joined 25 others; 13 males and 12 females, discharged from our isolation centres after testing negative for #COVID19, bringing the total of our successfully managed and discharged patients to 528."

The Lagos state governor also expressed his appreciation to frontline workers for their efforts just as he urged residents to play their part by adhering to safety guidelines to limit the spread of the virus.

As of Thursday, May 14, Lagos has recorded 2,041 COVID-19 cases, the highest in the country.

The state has 1,480 active cases, 528 recoveries and 33 deaths.

This was disclosed by the commissioner for health in the state, Professor Akin Abayomi.

Meanwhile, the commissioner also confirmed that a Nigerian returnee from Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) was dead.

On his verified Twitter handle Abayomi disclosed that the Nigerian, a male of 32 years old, died of complications from coronavirus.

However, in an update on Twitter, Abayomi said it was a presumed coronavirus-related death, adding that the test result of the deceased was not yet out.

The commissioner regretted any misinterpretation his earlier announcement must have caused, adding that the test result will be published once it is out.
