More Crisis Looms In Oyo Assembly, By Abdulhafeez Ola Agboola
If not well managed, the current crisis rocking the Oyo State House of Assembly may snowball into a bigger one and divide the members the more.
There seems to be a kind of disunity in the House over the sacking of a member as committee chairman. Hon. Olagoke Akinajo, at the Tuesday's plenary, was unceremoniously removed as Chairman, House Committee on Public Works and Transport by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin. Both Ogundoyin and Akinajo are from the same party, PDP.
The embattled honourable, who is representing Ibadan North East State Constituency 1, was said to have been accused of disloyalty. According to an inside source, Akinajo was said to be found wanting in a purported fake story of Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin's impeachment as Speaker.
The one that even infuriated the Speaker the most, according to the source, was the fact that Akinajo is allegedly doing an underground finding on details of amount spent on the renovation of both Speaker and Deputy Speaker's quarters, which is said to be about 20million naira.
Akinbajo's removal however didn't go down well with the principal officers of the House who were not carried along by the Speaker.
While some are saying the Speaker's action was indeed a good move and would serve as a warning signal to those who may want to disrespect the young Honourable Speaker.
Some, however, are of the opinion that such occurrence will not but create a kind of division and enmity among members.
But whether the situation will be well managed between the principal officers of the Assembly and the Speaker as well as other members or not, time will tell.
