Meet Late Shehu Shagari's First Son, Bala Shagari Who Was Forcefully Retired From Nigerian Army. By Abdulhafeez Ola Agboola










Mallam Muhammad Bala Shagari who was born on the 17th of March, 1949 by the former President, Late Shehu Shagari and his mother, Hajiya Amina holds a traditional title of "Sarkin Mafara of Shagari and also the District Head of Shagari Local Government, Sokoto State.

Muhammad Bala Shagari attended Barewa college, Zaria which after then, he move on to the Nigerian Defence Academy in 1975. Muhammad Bala Shagari in 1975 was a member of the 18th regular course and in the result of coup in Nigeria, December 1983 which led to the removal of his father, Muhammad Bala Shagari was detained for a short time and after then, among junior military officers, Muhammad Bala Shagari was forcefully retired at the rank of "Caption".
















Preceding the Nigerian Third Republic, Muhammad Bala Shagari was a member of the constituent assembly representing Yabo constituency, once in the past comprising of Yabo, Shagari and Tambuwal Local Governments in 1988. In spite of the fact that, The Nigeria Third Republic never kept going long because of the abrogation of the Nigerian presidential election, 1993.

















Muhammad Bala Shagari was later appointed as the Director Nigeria Agricultural Cooperative and Rural Development Bank in 1993. In 1997, after Shagari turned into a Local Government, Muhammad Bala Shagari was named as the District Head of Shagari by Sultan Muhammadu Maccido. In 2009, Shagari turned into a member from the Federal Capital Territory Judicial Service Committee.

  1. Nigeria rulers are parochial in thinking and want power to circulate within their family scope as a royal dynasty. In a sane nation ethnic,religion or family affiliation would not be criteria for placement in any form of administration. What difference does it make in royal dynastic and our present political daynasty system that our politicians are creating. Merit has no place in administration, placement, employment and appointment. That a person is related to an highly placed politician does not qualify him into a committee or commission. The whole system is an apology and can never make us progress.
