BREAKING: Panic in Osun over the arrival of 27 northern youths

Some residents of Oke Ola community in the Ota Efun area of Osogbo, Osun State, on Tuesday expressed concern following the arrival of about 27 youths from the northern part of the country into the neighborhood.

Sources in the area said the youth arrived in the area around 4am.

According to PUNCH, A resident, identified simply as Olagbafe,   said the youth, said to be engaged by an unnamed company executing a project in the area, rented part of a storey building in the community where they lived.

Olagbafe further explained that sometime in March, all of them left for an undisclosed destination.

He said their sudden reappearance when there was a ban on interstate travel to prevent the spread of COVID-19, led to panic and made some residents to inform the police.

“Although policemen quickly responded, they came and evacuated the youth; but less than an hour after, all of them returned to our community and we are all scared,” Olagbafe said.

When asked about the development, the Chief Press Secretary to the Osun State Governor, Ismail Omipidan, said there was no cause for alarm.

He said the youth were Federal Government workers and were screened before they entered the state.

“The government is aware of their presence in the state. There is no cause for alarm,” Omipidan said.
