Residents frown as Gov Akeredolu appoints Son as Secretary of COVID-19 Committee
Residents of Ondo state has shown their grievances on social media platforms as Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, constituted a committee for Ondo State Coronavirus Response Fund with his son, Babajide Akeredolu appointed as the Secretary of the Committee.
The Committee is meant to mobilize resources to combat the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.
According to reactions gathered, Some of the people who spoke on the inclusion of Babajide in the Committee by his father, described the action of the governor as strange and asked the governor to reverse it immediately.
Some of the reactions were on Facebook, WhatsApp and Twitter platforms where both in opposition and citizens alike condemned the governor’s action as unfortunate.
One of them on WhatsApp SUNSHINETRUTH platform simply identified as “7th Agenda” said, “this govt need to be guided, advised and directed well. I suspect something is either wrong or missing somewhere
“This is a serious time that we need to address some life threatening issue such as COVID-19.
“They say desperate time requires desperate measure, setting up COVID-19 committee in the state to include some funny xter and now fund raising committee to include son is nauseatingly disgusting.”
Another resident who spoke with Triangle Magazine said, “How can the Governor set up a Committee and make his son the Secretary. I bet that nobody will give his or her hard earned money to this Committee.
“Why must the governor involve his son and family in all activities of Ondo State. This move truly casts doubt on the sincerity of the state government in regards to whatever fund may be generated.”
Another WhatsApp user said, “Babajide Akeredolu???? What is really wrong with Rotimi Akeredolu??? Can’t he think outside the box????” Akin Awodeyi said.

COVID-19: AKEREDOLU CONSTITUTES RESPONSE FUND COMMITTEE
Following the constitution of the palliative committee put in place by his administration to cushion the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has constituted a committee for Ondo State CoronaVirus Response Fund to mobilize resources to combat the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.
The committee’s mandate, amongst others, is to help mobilize funds, in cash or kind, and manage the efficient and transparent utilisation.
Members of the committee include:
Mr. Kayode Falowo – Chairman
Engr. Akin Odumakin – Vice Chairman
Ms.Cecilia Akintomide – Member
Mr. Segun Fagboyegun- Member
Prof. Adesegun Fatusi- Member
Mr. Babajide Akeredolu – Secretary
The Terms of Reference of the Committee are as follows:
i. Recommend and advise the government on funding strategies.
ii. Manage funds mobilized.
iii. Direct funding campaign.
iv. Identify and contact effective funding channels/sources.
v. Carry out any other activities for the success of the above-mentioned.
The Response Fund Committee will work closely with the State Inter-ministerial Committee and is expected to begin work immediately till the last resolution of the pandemic is achieved. It will equally provide weekly reports and submit a concrete completion report at the end of its activities.
For transparency and accountability, the committee will work with Ernst and Young as Fund Advisors, and SIAO Partners will serve as Auditors for the Fund.
