Reps. passes bill to give Nigerians free electricity for two months

While Nigerians are expected to stay indoor for the time being due to the outbreak of the deadly COVID-19, the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila said there’s a proposed Bill in place to ensure that Nigerians get free electricity supply for the next two months.



This, according to him is considered to mitigate the effects of COVID-19 pandemic.

The speaker added that the proposed bill is to help in boosting the economy through the informal sector as the country prepares for the aftermath of the coronavirus and it would be discussed immediately the house reconvenes from its ongoing break that it embarked on since the outbreak of the virus.

He also disclosed that the resumption date for the house which had been slated for April 7 has been extended by a week in compliance with the government’s ‘stay at home policy’.

Speaking at the National Assembly, venue of the meeting that was held between the National Leadership and the Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmad on Saturday, Lawan said that it is sacrosanct that Nigeria prepares for the effect of COVID-19 on its economy.

He finally explained the necessity of the power sector, being a commodity consumed by many Nigerians.
