Police arrest top government officials for breaking lockdown order

Following the order of the Nasarawa state governor, Abdullahi Sule, banning social gathering of more than 20 persons in a means to curtail the spread of the virus, it was reported that the police in the state have arrested two top Nasarawa state government top officials for violating the order.

Those arrested include Alhaji Suleman Agyo, the Overseer of Lafia North local government council in the state capital, and Mukhtar Wakeel, the Acting Registrar of Emir Mustapha Agwai Polytechnic (formerly Nasarawa Polytechnic) in Lafia.

According to a source, Alhaji Suleman Agyo married a second wife in Lungun Wambai in Lafia, and videos of the marriage ceremony has, since then, gone viral amongst residents.

Police commissioner in the state, Bola Longe, confirmed the arrest of the top officials and vowed that they’ll be prosecuted for violating the restriction order of the government.

The police commissioner added that the suspects passed the night in detention at the police station and that effort is ongoing to arrest and detain the national vice chairman of APC in the North Central, Alhaji Sulieman Wambai and the Overseer of Lafia East development area, Shuaibu Buba who are on the run currently after attending the wedding.

It was gathered that all efforts made by the top officials to get to the governor to order their release failed as the governor insists that full wrath of the law must hold.

Confirming the development, the state Attorney General and commissioner for Justice, Dr Abdulkarim Kana, said the officials were arrested as the order of the government that bans social gathering of more than 20 persons binds on everybody no matter how high placed the person is in the society.
