COVID 19: A CLARION CALL FOR URGENT INTERVENTION

I convey to you our regards and solidarity from the stable of National Coalition of Yoruba Youth and Students and all other Sister Youth Organisations in Ekiti State, National Association of Nigerian Students(NANS) Inclusive!

1. Recall that COVID 19 and its attendant hardship is currently ravaging the world in an unprecendented manner. Nigeria has witnessed exponential increment of new cases in the last few weeks, a good number of which is now through community spreading.

2. Our dear State(EKITI), has dealt well with the two recorded cases in the state and have taken hard measures to ensure that further spread is cultailed. The necessary precautionary measures has imposed on the people untold hardship, no one is really to blame for the hardship, rather a sacrifice will all must be ready to be part of.

3. Arising from the aforesaid, we have resolved to plead with our elected leaders, past leaders, and well to do members of the public to rise to the occassion and support the indigent at this trying time. It is worthy to state that we are specially taking note of dispositions of every politically exposed individuals, personalities, private organisations, towards supporting the indigent and citizens during this crises.

4. We are also determined to take a very radical stance against every politically exposed person whose support to the citizens falls short during this crises.

5. In similar vein, we want to acknowledge and appreciate leaders who in no small measure rendered support to the people in this time of crisis. This crisis will open up a new dimension and new conversation within our political system after this pandemic.

6. We have reached a cross road where leaders will be directly and publicly called out to support their local community because to whom much is given, much is expected. It is an act of gross irresponsibility for any leader to desert their constituencies and cummunity at this trying time.

7. As stated earlier, everyone nursing a political ambition who is no where to be found at this time should not even contemplate pasting any political poster or advertorial when this is over, we'll resist them, mobilize our members and youths in their communities to disgrace and reject them totally.

8. Without mencing words, any one representing Ekiti State at all levels in the federal government both parliamentary, executive, board and parastatals will be placed under close scrutiny and we'll respond appropriately to their actions or inactions when this is finally over.

9. In addition, we call on members of the private sector operating within the state to explore their corporate social responsibilities and support their host communities. We are not unaware of the economic and trade challenges this pandemic has imposed on corporate organisations and the private sector. However, we are of the opinion that empathy for indigent will be pivotal towards security of business assets and business environment. it is therefore not only humane to support the poor at this time but a strategic endeavour to further enhance security.
