15 Imams arrested for holding Jumah prayers

Kano State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 15 “Imams” who went against the lockdown oder put in place by Kano State government as a way of curtailing the spread of the dreaded coronavirus in the state.

Recall Kano State has the third highest confirmed cases of Coronavirus (73) in Nigeria according to NCDC.

Confirming the news to one of our reporters on phone, Kano State Police Public Relations Officer DSP Abdullahi Haruna disclosed that almost all the arrested men were not even recognised Imams, but some youths who just organised themselves into groups to perform Jumah Service, adding further that it was residents of the ancient city that actually arrested those men and brought them to the Command,

He further noted that anyone including religious leaders from both Islamic and Christian faiths who violated the lockdown order would be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.
