Kayode Aroloye To Revamp Agriculture Sector in Idanre, Ondo state

South Western region of the country was at its best when the right emphasis was placed on agriculture.

There was industrial growth through establishment of  cottage industries like Ire Burnt Brick Factory, Ifon Ceramic, O'odua Textiles at Ado Ekiti, Oluwa Glass, Igbokoda and so many others that stemmed up, while education received boost, as it was almost free for all and sundry (Universal Basic Education).

The listed above were mainly financed through dividends from Agricultural products like cocoa, coffee, cotton and lumbering businesses which fetched good revenue for the government of those days. Animal husbandry was a goldmine too.

While chatting with the Media, Prince Kayode Aroloye, the Chairmanship candidate of All Progressive Congress (APC) gave an insight into what he intends to do to revamp the agricultural sector in the local government area.

He posited that since a large chunk of our people are farmers as the soil basically support farming activities and in the returns, Idanre remains the largest producer of Cocoa in the country.

"I was in the cocoa business, I understand the basic rudiments and  principles of pricing and supply as well.

The quality and quantity of supply enhance the pricing"   With that, he opined that we must support our farmers to get the best modern and productive farm practices as obtained in developed countries, in farm management, inputs supplies and value added  chains as these will add more revenues to their coffers.

The foremost Chairmanship candidate under the APC banner further revealed that he had consulted some firms in South Africa with responses  that have been so fantastic.

One of the companies, with interested individuals,  promised to set up value chain enhancements to process cocoa beans into semi finished products, such as cocoa powder, butter, cream and the likes while the pods, which often are left to rot away presently as wastes in the farm plantations would be used as components of animal feeds.

He said all these are achievable because he had personally seen them working in other climes and he is confident that our case isn't going to be an exception.
As a reference point, he referred to the revamping of General Hospital, Idanre, which received new lease of life due to his managerial expertise and honesty of the Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Kayode Omisogbon. He said if it worked there, it can be prototyped in other facets of our economy and social life.

Prince Kayode Aroloye opined that other crops, both cash and subsistence food crops,  will be looked into concurrently as the Agriculture Department of the Local Government will be optimized with both Animal husbandry and Aquaculture rigorously and  aggressively pursued.

"The youth will be motivated to take  advantage of our programmes when elected. The bulk of our programmes will be youth-focused as they are going to be one of the major targets of our welfarism programmes."

In the 60s and 70s, the Cooperative Produce Marketing Schemes were everywhere doing businesses and touching lives of the farmers but they are, sadly part of history today. We might need to look at their templates in order to  reactivate the model and improve on their performances as to  accommodate or incorporate corporate individuals to do business with us.

Prince Aroloye said collaborations with relevant corporate bodies or different tiers of government and others would be synergized optimally to ensure maximum growth of our Agricultural programmes when elected.
