HISTORY 

The Polytechnic, Ibadan was established in 1970 as a successor to the erstwhile Technical College, Ibadan under the provisions of a principal Edict cited as the Polytechnic, Ibadan Edict 1970. This Edict has undergone several amendments in order to make the Polytechnic relevant to the present day needs of Oyo State, the Proprietor in particular and Nigeria in general. The primary function of the Polytechnic is to provide for students training and development of techniques in applied science, engineering, environmental science and commerce. The Polytechnic has been producing majorly middle-level manpower that has been making valuable contributions to the social and economic development of the country. Over the years the Polytechnic has also produced high-level manpower in some areas such as urban and regional planning, mass communication etc. The primary focus of the Polytechnic is training that is practical oriented. The institution has been performing this function creditably well for over thirty years. 


The graduates of the Polytechnic, Ibadan are brilliant, sharp and excellent. The polytechnic has produced more than 5,000 successful entrepreneurs In the past years. graduates of poly Ibadan are known to be doing great and have contributed to the society in terms of man power, science, technology And entrepreneurship. The school is sometimes ago described as "POLY CHALLENGE" as Poly Ibadan products always overcome any challenges that may actually come their way. The polytechnic Community  is so attractive inclusive of the hostels.  The polytechnic run three programmes;  Full time, part time and daily part time programme.

 
The polytechnic, Ibadan according to NBTE was  described as foremost polytechnic Held in high esteem. The rector of the polytechnic is Professor Kazeem Adekunle Adebiyi. 

FIRST AMONG EQUAL 
The Polytechnic, Ibadan is first among  equal polytechnics in Nigeria  with technical and practical system of running the institution. The institution also commit herself to train certified graduates. PolyIbadan lecturers are expert who are qualified for placement; They're knowledgeable about their working rights and conditions.

 The polytechnic, Ibadan is committed to produce entrepreneur graduates certified in their skills.In accordance of governance, the new management team has coordinate and install discipline in the environment.


The polytechnic has in total 33 department with 5 faculties; The Faculty of business and communication studies which has the highest number of students and the highest number of department, the faculty of enginering, the faculty of environmental studies, the faculty of financial and management studies and faculty of science.


Aside from credible academic records, poly Ibadan is full of social life with different association bringing out the social vibe in the student. The indigenous association, departmental association, non governmental organization that help in building the student in community opportunities, business opportunities, individual opportunities and different opportunities that help in shaping the students academically and socially. 

The polytechnic has recently accredited new courses like Library and Information Science, Mechatronics Engineering (these are unique courses because the programme  is 3-year duration for the National diploma certificate).

Thomas Temitope Gbemisola 

Thomas Temitope Gbemisola, a student in the department of Science laboratory technology  Said:

 'I am  not Saying this to promote hatred and disparity but to promote creativity and self development.  The Polytechnic, Ibadan (typically called "Poly Ibadan") is an institution of higher learning in Ibadan in Oyo State, Nigeria.  The institution was established to provide an alternative higher education to universities, particularly in technical skill acquisition. In terms of learning my school is one of the best. We have enough scientific equipment and well trained instructors. What more can I say; If You think am lying Just  visit my school(Poly Ibadan) am so  sure You  won't want to leave but to seek admission here.

Oyeniran Oluwatobi 

Oyeniran Oluwatobi, ND2 Student, poly Ibadan  said:

It has a fairly fast calendar, and there's rarely any reports of controversy And most platforms for registration are digitalised."


POLY IBADAN PRODUCTS ARE EXTREMELY DOING WELL 

With no doubts, The polytechnic Ibadan products are extremely doing well, They are academically sound and also have good social vibe. The polytechnic products are fashionists, they know how to dress as well as their mode of dressing is superb. Below are icons of the great institution.


 MERCY AIGBE

Mercy was born on the 1st of January, 1979 as a second child in a family of five at Edo State, Nigeria, Aigbe schooled at the Polytechnic, Ibadan where she had her OND in Financial Studies went on to the University of Lagos in 2001 for a degree in Theater Arts Yomi Otaigbe holds a HND,Upper Credit in Mass Communication from The Polytechnic, Ibadan and she is also a graduate of Broadcast Journalism from the New York Film Academy.


TOPE ALABI
She hails from Yewa, Imeko of Ogun State. She obtained her West Africa School Certificate (WAEC) at Oba Akinyele Memorial High School, Bashorun Anlugbua, Ibadan in the year 1986. Thereafter, she proceeded to The Polythecnic , Ibadan where she studied Mass Communication and graduated in the year 1990. Tope Alabi pursued her educational attainment with all seriousness and dedication it deserves because her parents were disciplinarians of the highest order.



YOMI OTAIGBE ORIYOMI 

Mary Otaigbe is a Broadcast Journalist and Senior Reporter/Presenter with the award- winning Channels Television.
Aside from the coverage of other topical subjects, Yomi has been passionate in reporting Health issues and Policies for over a decade on the domestic and international scenes including the coverage of the meeting of World Health Assembly, the decision-making body of the World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland. Yomi has covered numerous public health challenges and was in the thick of things during the Ebola outbreak in Nigeria in 2014. She reported on preventive measures and activities from the Ebola Emergency Operation center located at the Central Public Health Laboratory Building in Yaba, Lagos, the First Consultant Medical Center, Obalende and other areas where News came from until Nigeria successfully contained the disease. Yomi Otaigbe holds a HND,Upper Credit in Mass Communication from The Polytechnic, Ibadan and she is also a graduate of Broadcast Journalism from the New York Film Academy.



BAMIDELE O. SAMSON (Chairman BOVAS Group)

Architect Bamidele O. Samson, is a co-founder of BOVAS Group. He studied in Nigeria and Europe and lectured briefly at the University of Ibadan and the Polytechnic, Ibadan, before joining Design Group, from where he retired to start the Bovasgroup. He is an eminent Rotarian, a Justice of Peace and an Architectural Consultant of repute. Prince Akanbi obtained a B.Sc. Business Administration from George Brown College, Toronto, Ontario (2005-2009), Ordinary National Diploma in Mass Communication from The Polytechnic Ibadan (1985-87), Certificate in Cybis & Axis System, Convergys Institute, Halifax, Nova Scotia in Canada (2001-2005) and Seismic certificate in Operations, Oil and Gas Processing Facilities (2005).

Governor Aregbesola (Ex Governor, Osun State)

He had his primary and secondary education in Ondo State, and later attended The Polytechnic, Ibadan, where he studied Mechanical Engineering and graduated in 1980

The polytechnic Ibadan is regarded as the best polytechnic in Nigeria.
