NANS Zone D Applauds Operation Amotekun: A welcomed initiative for national security
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Southwest region (ZONE D) is an association passionate and committed to national development. We would at all front contribute our quota to the development of the Nigerian State.
Security has been one of the challenges impeding the development of the Nigerian State. The South West region has had her own share of the insecurity in the nation through incessant killings and kidnappings.
Still very fresh in our memory is the murder of the daughter of Afenifere Leader Reuben Fasoranti, Mrs. Iyabo Olakunrin and the kidnap of Prof. Olayinka Adegbehingbe of Obafemi Awolowo University.
The Operation Amotekun that is scheduled to be inaugurated and launched today Thursday 9th January, 2020 by the South West Region Government is an initiative in the right direction as we believe it will work together with existing security operatives to further make our region safe by combating crimes and addressing all security issues.
We wish to commend the South West Governors for coming together to take up the challenge of insecurity in our region and finding a soon to be tested solution to the problems in Operation Amotekun.
We implore each State Government to ensure that trained personnels with security intelligence are recruited for the operation. They should also be well equipped to combat all forms of crimes impeding the development of our region and also threatening the existence of the people.
On the rumor of the OPC and Hunter being recruited into the operation, taking into account of the background knowledge and understanding of the environment by local hunters and members of the OPC, it is important that they are part of the operation. We are of the opinion that the operation should be a joint operation of the local hunters, OPC members and the trained personnel recruited for the operation.
However, the operational practice for all should be clearly stated to allow everyone work where they are effective.
The Students body in South West (NANS ZONE D) also pledges her support to the Operation and would contribute her own quota too where necessary to the security of our status quo.
We admonish the personnel of Operation Amotekun to be committed to securing the lives and properties of the constituents of the South West Region whilst urging them not to deviate from their statutory responsibility and engage in illegal activities.
In a system signed by Com. Kappo Samuel Olawale, Coordinator, and Com. Olatunji Nurudeen Ishola, Publics Relation Officer (PRO), NANS ZONE D, we are keeping our eyes on the operation and would not shy away from our responsibility of standing for the just course. We will call out anyone found using the operation for other motives rather than the motive of safeguarding our coast.
