Amotekun: NANS ZONE D Blows Hot As Nigerian Students in Southwest stand firm to ensure exists of security outfit
...FEDERAL GOVERNMENT DECLARATION OF OPERATION AMOTEKUN ILLEGAL: OUR STAND AS A PROGRESSIVE MINDED ASSOCIATION AND A CONCERNED STAKEHOLDER
The attention of the ever conscious and progressive minded students under the aegis of National Association of Nigerian Students - Southwest (NANS ZONE D) has been drawn to the statement of the Special Assistant on Media and Public Relations to the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Dr. Umar Gwandu, declaring the Western Nigeria Security Outfit, Operation Amotekun illegal stating that the Federal Government has established the Police, Navy and other Security Agency to ensure security of lives and property in the Country hence the establishment of Operation Amotekun is out of place.
The statement emanating from the office of the Attorney General of the Federation is laughable and devoid of sagacity as happenings so far as shown that the Security agencies have not been able to contain the challenge of Insecurity in the Federation.
The Security Agencies were not dead when an academia from Obafemi Awolowo University was kidnapped and also when Mrs. Iyabo Olakunrin lost her life due to the activities of suspected gun men.
We make bold to say that the establishment of Operation Amotekun has become a necessity for us as Southwest is concerned to further safeguard our region and complement the activities of existing security agencies.
The Security Outfit has received appraisal from all quarters where other regions are poised to implement same at their level hence should be sustained. We urge the South West Governors not be distracted by this unwise position of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) but remain resolute and ensure the success of the Security Outfit to silence critics.
Conclusively, We think the Federal Government has an investment in the challenge of insecurity ravaging the Federation as declaring an operation to protect lives and property of the people illegal seems like a cover up somewhere.
In a statement signed by Com. Kappo Samuel Olawale, Coordinator, and Com. Olatunji Nurudeen Ishola, Public Relation Officer (PRO) of NANS ZONE D stated that the Nigerian Students in Southwest will stand firm to ensure operation amotekun exists and will not hesitate to engage anyone playing politics with the operation whilst endangering lives of our constituents.
