NANS Zone D elects new exco
THE National association of Nigeria students, ZONE D representing the South west axis on Saturday, 7th December elected new executive to pilot the affairs of the association, VAM News has gathered.
The official communique issued at the end of the convention below:
COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS (NANS) ZONE D 2019 CONVENTION HELD AT LAGOS STATE COLLEGE OF HEALTH TECHNOLOGY (LASCOHET) ON SATURDAY 7TH DECEMBER , 2019.
The Convention proper started with the accreditation of Senators and two nominations was made for the Convention Chairman namely Sunday Asefon (Asefon) and Adeyemi Samson (Samrich). Sunday Asefon rejected the nomination on the rationale of being an aspirant for the office of National President of the Association. Adeyemi Samson automatically became the Convention Chairman and he proceeded to the dissolution of the outgone executives whilst appreciating the Coordinator, General Secretary and Assistant General Secretary as they were present at the Convention.
The house proceeded to the constitution of the Communique Drafting Committee (CDC) with the nomination of Comrade Abidoye Omololu Victor (CASTRO) as Chairman of the CDC who in turn rejected the nomination stating that he is no longer a student and that a student should be appointed instead. The Communique Drafting Committee (CDC) was then unanimously appointed by the entire house and was announced by the Convention Chairman. The house appointed Olayiwola Taiwo (OYO) as Chairman, CDC. Lawal Qudus (LAGOS) as Secretary, CDC. and Rahmon Opeyemi (OSUN) as Member, CDC.
After the formation of the CDC, the entire house unanimously agreed to proceed with the Election. The Coordinator election was to take place first. Comrade Tiamiyu Taiwo (Federal College of Animal, Health and Production Technology) nominated KAPPO as Coordinator of the Zone. The nomination was seconded by Comrade Yahya Muhammed (College of Education, Ikere-Ekiti).
Comrade Ajibade Quazeem (Federal Polytechnic, Ede) nominated KALUSA as Coordinator of the Zone. The nomination was seconded by Comrade Adeyemo Akeem (Osun State University).
Comrade Shabi Awwal (Micheal Otedola College of Primary Education) nominated HIDMAS as Coordinator of the Zone. The nomination was seconded by Comrade Semasa Ojo (Yaba College of Technology).
The Convention Chairman upon the agreement of the house asked that KAPPO, KALUSA and HIDMAS be invited into the election hall. KAPPO and HIDMAS came into the hall while KALUSA was declared not present after the house waited for 15minutes. HIDMAS demanded that he is given the audience to address the whole house which was obliged by the Convention Chairman. HIDMAS in his address stated that he earlier released a statement notifying the entire public of his withdrawal from the race and that he is standing by decision in the interest of having a unified Zone. He thanked the Senators for the opportunity offered to him to serve the Zone as the Coordinator. KAPPO and KALUSA was to go into the election to decide who becomes the Coordinator. KAPPO was given Code 1 while KALUSA in his absence was assumed to have taken Code 2. The Code is what the Senators would inscribe on the ballot for their preferred candidate.
The Convention Chairman moved to append his signature on the ballots to be used for the election. The signature authorises the validity of the ballot. Comrade Ajibade Quazeem (Federal Polytechnic, Ede) sued that signing of ballots was wasting time. The Convention Chairman replied that it is for the sake of transparency and that only ballots with his signature will be counted. The house later agreed that only the Coordinator ballot should be signed, others should just be counted and used. The Convention Chairman asked the Clerk to pass an attendance carrying the following information :name, institution and signature to verify the Senators present. It was counted that 36 senators were present and 36 ballots was to be used for the election. Comrade Omoniye Samson(Moshood Abiola Polytechnic) asked that the ballot should be counted to the general public there present.
The Convention Chairman handed over ballots to the Senators. The Senators proceeded to voting whilst dropping it in the ballot box provided in the election hall at a central location for all senators and observers clear view. After voting, the Convention Chairman proceeded to sorting and counting of the used ballots in the presence of all. Senators asked that the ballots be counted louder which was implemented by the Convention Chairman.
The Convention Chairman counted 36 ballots which sits in conformity with earlier accreditation. The exercise was accepted by all present and the house proceeded to sorting of votes and counting. Code 1 which represented KAPPO pulled 34votes while Code 2 pulled 2votes.
The Convention Chairman standing on the power vested in him as the Convention Chairman declared KAPPO as Winner of the election and Coordinator of the Zone haven scored 34votes out of a possible 36. KAPPO was returned as Coordinator of the Zone. KAPPO appreciated all senators present and immediately stepped out. The Coordinator election was concluded by 6:25pm.
The Convention Chairman proceeded to the election of the office of the Deputy Coordinator but received strong objection from senators asking that they should go ahead with the election of the General Secretary. Comrade Samson Omoniyi(Moshood Abiola Polytechnic) observed that the senators should not set that precedent by clamoring for positions as others can do so again if it is allowed. He advised that they should do it hierarchically. The whole house agreed to the suggestion. The house proceeded to the election of the Deputy Coordinator.
Comrade Olajide Abdul Hamad (Federal College of Education, Akoka nominated DAN FODIO as Deputy Coordinator of the Zone. The nomination was seconded by Comrade David Joshua (Federal College of Education, Abeokuta).
Comrade Omoniyi Samson (Moshood Abiola Polytechnic) nominated OTUNBA for Deputy Coordinator of the Zone. Comrade Awoyemi Michael(Olabisi Onabanjo University) seconded the nomination of OTUNBA as Deputy Coordinator.
Comrade Akeem Abass (Ogun State Institute of Health Technology, Ilese) nominated VERSATILE for Deputy Coordinator of the Zone. The nomination was seconded by Comrade Adegbolu Habib (ICT, Itori).
With VERSATILE absent, the house unanimously agreed that the election should be between DAN FODIO and OTUNBA. Code 2 was adopted for OTUNBA and Code 1 for DAN FODIO. The entire house voted for the two aspirants with their codes. Immediately after voting, the house proceeded to sorting by giving each aspirant the vote they scored. Code 1 was given to DAN FODIO and Code 2 to OTUNBA. At the end of the sorting and counting, OTUNBA pulled 1vote and DAN FODIO pulled 33votes.
The Convention Chairman at exactly 6:40pm declared DAN FODIO winner of the election and Deputy Coordinator of the Zone haven scored a total of 33votes out of a possible 34. DAN FODIO was returned as Deputy Coordinator of the Zone, he appreciated the senators and stepped out.
The house unanimously agreed to proceed to the election of the General Secretary. Comrade Gbadero Habib (Ekiti State University) nominated HIGHBEEKAY as General Secretary of the Zone. Comrade Emmanuel Olamide (Lagos State Polytechnic) seconded the nomination.
Comrade Muhammed Yusuf(Oyo State College of Education, Lalate) nominated DOLLY PEE as General Secretary of the Zone. The nomination was seconded by Comrade Azeez Jelili(University of Ibadan).
Comrade Boluwatife Oluwafisayo(Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo) nominated MEGABYTE as General Secretary of the Zone. The nomination was seconded by Comrade Ashaolu Victor(Ibarapa Polytechnic, Eruwa).
HIGHBEEKAY, DOLLY PEE and MEGABYTE was ushered into the election hall for election. DOLLY PEE was absent and the house unanimously agreed to proceed with the election between HIGHBEEKAY and MEGABYTE. MEGABYTE was given Code 2 and HIGHBEEKAY was given Code 1. The senators proceeded to voting immediately, it was sorted and counted. MEGABYTE pulled 21votes while HIGHBEEKAY pulled 14votes.
The Convention Chairman at exactly 6:54pm declared MEGABYTE as the winner of the election and General Secretary of the Zone haven scored a total of 21votes out of a possible 35. MEGABYTE was returned as the General Secretary of the Zone.
The house proceeded to the election of the Assistant General Secretary. Comrade Gbadero Habib(Ekiti State University) nominated HIGHBEEKAY as Assistant General Secretary of the Zone. The nomination was seconded by Comrade Oladele Oluwatayo*l (Lagos State University).
HIGHBEEKAY went unopposed as there was no other nomination from the house and he was declared Assistant General Secretary of the Zone by the Convention Chairman at exactly 6:59pm.
The house proceeded to the election of the Publics Relation Officer (PRO) of the Zone. Comrade Raji Kehinde (Osun State Polytechnic, Ire) nominated SOLACE as the Publics Relation Officer (PRO) of the Zone. The nomination was seconded by Comrade Ajibade Quazeem (Federal Polytechnic, Ede).
SOLACE went unopposed as there was no other nomination for the office of the PRO. At exactly 7:04pm, the Convention Chairman declared SOLACE as the Publics Relation Officer (PRO) of the zone.
The election ended at exactly 7:07pm with group photographs by the elected officials with the senators, the Convention Chairman and Clerk together with the Communique Drafting Committee.
