REBRANDING THE PREVIOUS PATH AGENDA

More than three decades ago, after NUNS was banned, comrades from different institutions across the country put heads together to birth what is known today as NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS, having zonal structures and state axis by which Kwara state is a part of the formation.

The purpose of that creation is “to have a charter, which expresses the position and solidarity of the rank and file of Nigerian students on issues affecting them, and clarify various points that often lead to crisis or misconceptions.”

While the association has faced some challenges in achieving this well thought out objective especially, when their soles drum the path of solidarity. However, there is no doubt that the association, Kwara axis in particular, is making a steady and sustainable progress over the years.

As the association makes progress in this direction, everything must be put in place to ensure that the process is not truncated.

While this can be achieved by managing the process that enthrones efficient relationship with the students, equally important is a highly skilled and experience person to drive that process.

It is on the basis of the above that I have decided to be of service to the association with the intent of joining hands with other executives-elect to move it forward.

Following wide and thorough consultations spanning the eleven institutions that make up NANS Kwara, with members of my family, mentors, and friends. I, SALAMI WASIU, a student of University of Ilorin, declare my intention to contest for the position of the CHAIRMAN, of our great association, National Association of Nigerian Students, in the forthcoming convention.

I offer myself for this position with the readiness to rebrand the previous path towards propagating the association's values and ideologies.

Over the years, I have demonstrated the ability and the capacity of a leader - SUG President, CPC Chairman, CDC Chairman, Chief of staff, among others - and I have used this to the great advantage of NANS.

Having held the above listed positions in NANS, I have the requisite knowledge to function effectively in office.

Our leaders in the past have made NANS Kwara the most decent axis among her contemporaries. Hence my mission is to REBRAND THE PREVIOUS PATH of our past leaders via; capital projects, human capital development, intellectual summit, symposium, retreat, welfare package, nurturing probity, games and enthrolling social events. The breakdown to achieve these will be discussed during manifesto.

In addition to that, I intend to synergise the media and communication relationship between the leadership of the association and the students we intend to serve. Operation NANS must be popular in campuses!

As I take on this bold step, I express my commitment to be an engaging NANS/JCC Chairman that will work for the interest of the students.
