Violence, Irregularities Mars Adopoly 'SUG election', management shut down school, ordered immediate evacuation of campus premises
There was commotion in the Federal polytechnic Ado Ekiti, on Friday, as a result of the outcome of the students union government election conducted in the polytechnic on Thursday 30th October.
Trouble averted on Friday when the Polytechnic electoral commission(APECO) declared the election inconclusive and cancelled the election, it was learnt that the total valid votes is more than the number of accredited voters in the four faculties as a result of which the election was cancelled.
Not satisfied with the electoral decision, Students staged a peaceful protest which led to violence in which the school building at faculty of engineering was destroyed by angry students and the school was shut down by the school authority.
IRREGULARITIES MARS FPA ELECTION
Our Correspondent gathered that there were irregularities in faculty of engineering as ineligible students voted in the faculty polling units. Some of the students who spoke with our correspondent on condition of anonymity confirmed ineligible voters; part time and evening students voted unchallenged.
HOW TROUBLE STARTED
Trouble and threats started online as opposition did remove one another from their group chats, Horlarmedia gathered that students allegedly chased out opposition agents from their faculties while the election process was still on, this spike out anger among the students and they began to beat any opposition that come across their Way. Our correspondent gathered that beating of opposition was witnessed in all the four faculties in the polytechnic(SOT, SOE, SES and SBS).
Faculty of science(SOT) students chased out cadets from their polling units, faculty of environmental students attempt to disrupt the election process when the ballot papers meant for the election didn't arrive on time at the faculty, the polytechnic Dean of students affairs (DSA), Mr Dada brought ballot papers around 12:25pm. This delayed the election process as students voted till 10pm on Thursday before moving ballot boxes to the collation centres where it was counted.
The election was conducted under the supervision of DSS, NANS chairman, Members of staffs and management among others.
THE DSA IS PARTIAL- STUDENTS
The students in the school of engineering accused the Dean of the students affairs, Mr Dada, of being bias, According them, the DSA was harsh on engineering students and fair to the opposition, the students expressed dissatisfaction over the DSA contribution in the election, they also blame the management for the violence that occurred during the election stating that the management didn't allow them to decide for themselves but always see ways to impose power on them(students)
Some of the students blamed the alliance for the election violence, for not allowing students to vote for their preferred candidates while others kept blaming opposition for the election misdeeds.
PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES APOLOGIZED TO THE STUDENTS
The presidential candidates of the resurgence and redefine team, Comrade T-BLACK and comarade Adviser, has apologize to the students affected by the election results and violence urging the students to embrace peace.
MANAGEMENT ORDERED IMMEDIATE EVACUATION FROM CAMPUS PREMISES
To prevent further attack that may result to loss of lives and properties the management of the federal polytechnic Ado Ekiti on Friday ordered the immediate evacuation of the campus, this directive was instructed in a circular released from the office of the school registrar.
Some students, aspirants couldn't hold their tears on Friday when the election result was declared inconclusive, they lamented on the money, stress and time wasted during the election.
The school management announced that the students are expected to resume back on campus on Sunday 10th November, 2019 as examination will commence unfailing on Monday 11th November 2019.
Meanwhile, the polytechnic had in the previous month released higher National diploma(HND), morning and evening Admission lists.
