EKSU-SU PRESS CORPS HOLDS MAIDEN INTER-FACULTY SPEECH CONTEST

The Ekiti State University Students' Union (EKSU-SU) Press Corps has today, 14th November, 2019, held an inter-faculty speech contest that brought together amazing speakers from various faculties in the university. The purpose was to enlighten and educate the teeming student population about the 21st century depravity and how to curb them.

The following are the faculties that were ably represented at the oratory contest:

-Faculty of Agricultural Sciences
-Faculty of Law
-Faculty of Management Sciences
-Faculty of Arts
-Faculty of Engineering
-Faculty of Education and;
-Faculty of Sciences

The faculties had two representatives each. Faculty of Law talked about *Rape: whom to blame. The perpetrators or the victims?*

Also, Faculty of Management Sciences and Faculty of Engineering spoke about *Cyber crime (yahoo yahoo) any justification?*

Faculty of Arts also took to the podium to talk about *Freedom of press in the era of democracy*

While the Faculty of Sciences and Faculty of Education debated about *Indecent dressing, is it a peer pressure?*

Faculty of Agricultural Sciences also spoke about *Drug abuse; effects and solution?*

Meanwhile, the speech contest was divided into two rounds. In the first round, representatives from each faculties spoke about the chosen topics. From the speakers of the first round, 3 faculties had to drop off. The faculties that couldn't make it to the second and final round were Faculty of Arts with 133 points and the Faculty of Engineering, with only one representative, had 129 points. Also, Faculty of Management Sciences had 145 points.

The other faculties who made it to the final round were given a new topic and only one participant from faculty each represented. The topic for the final round was **Is Education a Panacea for National Development?*

The core reason of giving them the impromptu topic was to test the intellectual ability of each speaker and to see how easily they can adapt to changes. The participants did justice to the topic, as they all spoke to the audience to battle with wits to emerge the winner.

After the last round of the speech contest, the great Faculty of Agricultural Sciences emerged as the winner with 72%, while Faculty of Law came 2nd and followed by Faculty of Education clinching the 3rd place.

The speech contest was held by the Ekiti state university students union Press corps to enable students develop the art of public speaking and to have general knowledge about important subjects of societal concern and importance.

Certificates of participation were also given to all participants. Awards were also presented to the winners — 1st, 2nd and 3rd places with mouth-watering gifts attached.

Ekiti State University Student Union Press hereby uses this medium to appreciate all the participants, panel of judges, the audience and everyone who made the speech contest a huge success.
