October 13th has been set aside for the very purpose of getting the female gender aware of breast cancer symptoms and signs, and preventing full blown Breast cancer using the method of early detection.

It is not a day to send nude pictures all over the internet; neither a day to literally go 'braless' and parade all over the streets.
The underlying idea behind the 'Nobraday' is for our females to critically examine their breasts and check for any signs or symptoms of breast cancer, so early therapy can be taken to avoid the full blown Breast cancer; where the only remedy is cutting away the affected breast (Mastectomy).

The Breast Cancer Awareness Month, marked in countries across the world every October, helps to increase attention and support for the awareness, early detection and treatment as well as palliative care of this disease.

There are about 1.38 million new cases and 458 000 deaths from breast cancer each year (IARC Globocan, 2008). Breast cancer is by far the most common cancer in women worldwide, both in the developed and developing countries.

In low- and middle-income countries the incidence has been rising up steadily in the last years due to increase in life expectancy, increase urbanization and adoption of western lifestyles - WHO.

The majority of deaths (269 000) occur in low- and middle-income countries, where most women with breast cancer are diagnosed in late stages due mainly to lack of awareness on early detection and barriers to health services.

This day is meant to be a day to teach or make the females aware of the circumstances or things that causes breast cancer. This is a day where everyone is encouraged to look for ways of getting rid of cancer, maybe by sensitising females (mostly little girls) in their areas or countries  talking about how cancer starts, how to check for lumps in their breasts on time; so it can be treated before it causes substantial damages in their body system.

It is also meant to be a day to support these women or young girls who have been diagnosed  of breast cancer or are undergoing breast cancer therapy.

To women who lost their breasts  in order to survive.

No Bra Day is meant to promote awareness of breast cancer symptoms and encourage  feminine health to achieve a healthy environment as contained in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal Number 3- Good health and well being.

God bless our planet
God bless the girl child
God bless Nigeria
God bless our youths
