By Charity Aje

On Friday, the 24th of October 2019, Ekiti State University Students' Union hosted a memorable summit geared towards an expository knowledge about the history, present and future of Nigeria. The event was took place at the University's Main Auditorium was organized by the EKSU Senate President, Sen. Amoran Olueaseyi Babalola

The event recorded in attendance high profile individuals, educational stakeholders, students leaders, learned and great erudites.

A legal luminary, one of the resource persons for the event, Barr Tosin Ayo who is a lecturer and also a Legal practitioner took the students through the different phases the country Nigeria has been through.

In his lecture, he informed the participants  that " The problem of Nigeria started with the naming of Nigeria by a non Nigerian and also the imposition of Nigeria on the ethnic groups and diverse nationalities in the region."
He added:
"Nigeria's foundation is faulty and shaky. Nigeria constitution is not our constitution. Nigeria is also the assemblage and conglomeration of different races and tribes, it is an association of disjointed population.

The history of struggle started from 1922-1959 before independence. Nigeria was not made by Nigerians.

Nigeria is a toddler trying to find its voice. It is an underdeveloped country, the 4th most poorest state in the world, the 6th most unsaved place to live in the world.

The present Nigeria is a corrupted one with bad leaders, unemployability and unemployment, Greedy leaders.

Just as onions makes it peelers cry because of the sulphur presence in the land, there is Sulphur in Nigeria Ground. The sulphur includes Nepotism, Poverty, Corruption, lack of integrity, bad leadership. " *Low men in high places and high men in low places"*

There's enough for everybody's need in this country but not enough for everybody's greed."

The eye opening seminar continued with more revealing information.
We learnt that Nigeria is the way it is, as a result of you and me. Anytime you wake up and don't add anything to your life, you are a problem in Nigeria.
Change yourself first before you change Nigeria.

*Pool of unpatriotic followers are where the cup of dishonest leaders are drawn*.

Another problem facing Nigeria is Gender inequality.  "If you see gender before ability, you are a problem".

The issue of insecurity, Corruption, Intellectual Prostitution, etc.

 *The way forward for Nigeria*

Youth must take charge, "You don't need an iPhone if you don't have high sense"

Change your mentality

Be politically conscious and participate in the polity of today. Develop entrepreneurial skills; pay for them. Be faithful to your present and future.
Don't let your background put your back to the ground.

We have no power over our past but the present and future are in our hands.

During the impactful summit, awards of honour were presented to prestigious people and erudites.

In the Spirit of Aluta
God bless the youths
