Xenophobia: YAN condemns the merciless attacks on Africans, Nigerian in South Africa
Rt.Hon. Samuel Godstime Chukwubuikem; the National Speaker, Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN) joins my counterparts to strongly condemn the merciless attacks on Africans, Nigerians in Particular living in South Africa.
It has been brought the attention YAN that in recent times, our brothers and sisters are being openly attacked, killed and harassed by enemies of Africa's unity in South-Africa.
However, the Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN) in our last emergency sitting released to VAM has described these series of attacks 'xenophobia' as barbaric, act of incivility and as well a total disappointment to our Africa's past heroes and the freedom fighters that devoted most of their time trying to unite the continent. So, any attempt of discrimination or prejudice to a fellow African would be considered as a clear disappointment to them especially the fathers of Africa's unity like Nelson Mandela, Nnamdi Azikwe, Thomas Sankara, Kwame Nkurma, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, etc.
In fact, this xenophobic acts are unacceptable, shameful and a total disgrace to all Africans.
Therefore, I advice that never again should Africans be labelled as foreigners in any part of their own continent for peace and unity sake.
The Pan-African Organisation has members from 42 countries in Africa, including South Africa itself. So let us maintain our well-known brotherhood. Africa is one!
In conclusion, Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN) is calling on the Government of South Africa to call her citizens to order and take all necessary actions to halt the ongoing attacks now for the avoidance of other Africans going off from all diplomatic dealings with South Africa.
I call on the Government of Nigeria to equip her officials at the South African Embassy to ensure the safety of our dear countrymen and their properties in South Africa.
