'News items from NAN are credible, reliable', says Ojogo

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), has been described as a credible source of news gathering in the Nigeria media world, VAM has learnt.

This assertion was made known, today, by the Ondo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Donald Ojogo, while playing host to the Editor in Chief and some management staff of the news agency in Akure, the state capital. 


Mr. Ojogo commended the outfit for serving as reliable source of news generation  to many media platforms in the country, saying NAN has always adhere to the ethics of the pen profession over the years, thus enhancing its credibility status in the nation.


The State Information Commissioner also described the agency as a feeder, because many media organizations depend on it for accurate and timely information about event, to make their publications. 


He added that the state government, through the Ministry of Information and Orientation will continue to partner with News Agency Nigeria in the area of showcasing the laudable achievements of Arakunrin Akeredolu led administration in the State.


According to the commissioner, "We have encouraged relationship with NAN, especially with the State Correspondents. we  are ready to strengthen our friendship", he said. 


Mr. Ojogo, therefore urged the Editor in Chief to intimate the government about the challenges facing the agency in the State, assuring that the Governor will leave no stone unturned in ensuring its staffers enjoy good working atmosphere.


Speaking earlier, the Editor in Chief of NAN, Mr. Ibrahim Mammaga , who also doubles as the Acting Managing Director, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), appreciated the Commissioner for having confidence in the news agency, stressing that no news is relayed by the agency without passing thorough various desk of news writing. 


The Acting MD informed the Commissioner that he visited the State as part of activities to familiarise himself with the staff of the agency across the nation.


He noted that the mandate of the agency is to propagate government policies and programmes by processing accurate news items out to the public. 


He hinted that mistakes are not tolerated by the agency and many media organisations depends on them for credible information for news generation.

Press Officer, Ministry of Information and Orientation, received by VAM.


Mr. Mammaga promised that the friendship they are enjoying in the State would not be taken for granted and therefore urged the Commissioner to assist staff of agency who are correspondents in the state whenever they show up  for assistance.
